Is closing a thread no restricting our right to fredom of expression? If they are able to cloes a thread that they do not like or silence a memeber from speaking do they no control what we see and what we say?
I would also like the powers that be at MERC to comment on this situation.

Not that my opinion counts for anything but....

Why do people feel they can come to any website and spew whatever they want, claiming violations of freedom of speech when it gets deleted or cancelled? The user did not pay anything to go to that site and yet their expressions can be contrary to the general policies of the board or the feelings of the owners of the board and as such the board should (in my opinion) have the right to delete the posts or have the threads closed.

Under that same premise of 'freedom of speech' based on some people's logic we can start threads posting about racism, neo-nazis, or anything else that is inflammatory. I know I am stretching it with those examples but they are relevant nonetheless. If you wish freedom of speech within your view of it then you can always start your own site and allow people to post what they want.

Again, just my opinion....

My point in this matter is to set matters straight at the begining and set the rules on closing threads. If MERC or **** can close a thread anytime they like, they control the quality and the content of information that is availble to the memebers. If a thread has a valid point, then the poster should be allowed to speak his mind. There have been a few members of **** that have been banned for their post. A thread will slowly fade into the back of the pack if the content is irrelevant or is of no interest to the other memebers. So why close a thread if there are still people interested.

Comparisons on closed threads here and at the other place are not comparable. The threads closed here were because the issue was over.
In comparison on ****, they close threads because the content is not what the owner wants to see. Censorship is still rampant at that site. **** obviously still has big issues.

Maybe one of these days MERC will be just as popular as ****. Imagine a site that restricts the way you think and can silence your thoughts, a site that can and has banned memebrs for asking what the privacy policy is. A site that favor some memebers over others.
Now imagine a site that allows freedom of thought, a site that will no lock out an idea just because it does not benefeit the administrators of the site. A site that does has a privacy policy with integity. I know which site I will choose above the other.
Make no mistake about it, MERC and **** are in direct competition. As memebers cross over to MERC many will keep a foot over at ****. Eventualy all memebers of **** will also be members of MERC. At that point injustices in the pass will be remembered.
